Shanghai has released a new short film titled "Date with Shanghai" to commemorate the upcoming ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE). Produced jointly by the Shanghai Municipal Government Information Office and Shanghai Daily, the film is intended for global audiences and aims to highlight the city's role as an open platform for international engagement.
The production uses the metaphor of tickets to narrate the relationship between the expo and the city. According to the creators, various types of tickets serve as records of travel and shared encounters, each bearing the mark of a specific arrival or a warm promise to reunite in Shanghai. The film seeks to connect the global gathering of the expo with the daily life of the surrounding metropolis.
The narrative follows connections both inside and outside the exhibition grounds, portraying the influx of products from around the world and guests arriving from every corner of the planet. The production emphasizes that commerce creates links while cultures meet and intermingle. It describes Shanghai as opening its arms to the world, sharing expo opportunities and welcoming friendships born from these encounters.
The film presents a portrait of a city with a global vision, characterized by an open spirit and inclusive possibilities. It highlights themes of converging dreams, accelerating innovation, flowing talent, and shared opportunities. The narrative suggests that Shanghai offers a broad stage for individual passions and efforts, providing space for people to pursue their interests and the support needed to advance toward their goals.
Beyond the scope of the expo, the film explores the city's streets and alleys, capturing the bustle of daily life and the poetry found in routine. It aims to reveal the slow pleasures and quiet charm of urban living through delicate moments shared by people. The production posits that the city's appeal lies as much in these familiar, everyday moments as in the journeys that bring visitors from afar.
The CIIE is described as a meeting point for new and old friends from around the world, fostering connections with an open China. In this context, the short film invites viewers to discover a Shanghai that embraces the world, rich in heritage and filled with warmth and vitality.
